Virtual Reality, Fear of Pain and Labor Pain Intensity: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Background: Labor and delivery are physiological conditions that occur due to the contraction of smooth muscles uterus. pain is one most severe pains anyone can experience, its control important goals health care. Methods: This study was performed on 130 healthy pregnant women who had gestational ages 37 40 weeks were randomly assigned intervention groups using closed envelope technique. Then a virtual reality (VR) headset containing game provided subjects in group. The Harman Fear childbirth questionnaire visual analog scale (VAS) completed at different times across labor according protocol. minimum time for 20 minutes until end first stage labor. Data analyzed chi-square test, independent t-test, repeated measures test via SPSS software version 20. Results: results showed significant difference score between groups. Despite expecting increasing intensity with progression, participants VR group reported less fear compared (F = 8.18, P < 0.05, four ten cervical dilatations). Conclusions: Virtual interventions be regarded as new non-pharmaceutical strategy normal vaginal women.
